With summer upon us, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention remind us just how easy it is to guard against sunburns and the other conditions that can increase the risk of skin cancer.
Seek out shady areas, especially when ultraviolet rays are strongest, which is between 10 am and 4 pm.
Cover exposed skin with clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
Wear a wide-brim hat to protect the face, scalp, ears and neck.
Wear sunglasses to help block ultraviolet rays.
Use sunscreen with an SPF level of at least 15.
Remember that ultraviolet rays are present even when it’s cloudy or overcast.
